Our process has changes over the years from "we just build your website" to a 3-phased approach, and now finally a 5-phased process - complete with plenty of strategy to make sure we're not throwing darts at the wall (and keeping our fingers crossed that works for you!)
You signed on! How exciting! We start by getting to know you and your business. What are your goals for your website? What are your pain points with your current website? What are the most important pieces of information that you must impart to your clients, customers or donors? What are your competitors doing right with their websites? What are your competitors doing wrong with their websites? You'll have lots to tell us - and we'll do our due diligence as well.
We'll define the full scope of the new website, organize the content and create a site map to act as our road map for the production of the site. Many design studios require your content to be finalized up front but we have found that can be difficult for a lot of clients. We now have a process where we can organize your content all the way from the basic outline to the finalized version.
It's also in this Strategy Phase that we start to think about your SEO. We are strong believers in the adage that you can’t build a great structure on a weak foundation, so we formulate a plan for your keyword structure, your metadata, and more to put your website in the best possible position to driving traffic to your site.
This phase includes mood boards to establish the design style and visual design of the homepage. A mood board is a collection of design styles, ideas, images, font, and colors to help the client and designer establish a “FEEL” for the website. They are used to visually show the feelings or values that we want your ideal viewer to experience when they enter your website. Mood boards are depicted as collages that are approachable and easy to understand — even for people with little design experience.
Now that we've established the "feel" of your website, we can focus on your website viewers' experience - sometimes called the "user journey". How do viewers navigate your website? How is your information conveyed? Is everything easy to find? Does it take more than 2 clicks to get to important information? We'll create wireframes for each page of your website as defined in the site map. Just like a builder's blueprints, these wireframes will act as our instructions while building your site. We make sure that all site functionality and content is represented properly and optimized for an ideal user experience. We know . . . It's not that exciting but we promise creating the right foundation leads to a smoother process.
Now things really get fun! Following approval of Phase 3, the designed pages will be built into a functional website. You'll be able to see the pages in action with any animations and movement. After all of our planning, you'll be able to see your website finally coming together. It's in Alpha Development where we add in any of your site-specific customizations. If you have 3rd party integrations, custom code, or custom CMS implementation, all will come together during this Alpha phase.
Now we need your final content! The sample text and images that were set up in the Alpha Development phase will be swapped out with your finalized content. The pages will be tested for quality assurance, we'll sweep the entire site to finalize your SEO & accessibility, we'll connect your domain and voila! You've got a brand new website! After launch we offer a 30-day bug fix period to make sure you have a soft landing after launch and we don't leave you in the lurch.
